AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY'S REACH TO RECOVERY PROGRAM
Of all the service-related programs of the American Cancer Society, the Reach to Recovery program is probably one of the most well-known. Originally started in 1952 by breast cancer survivor Therese Lasser, it became a program of ACS in 1969, and has grown and flourished ever since. Its goal is to provide education, one-on-one support, and - when needed - a temporary prosthesis to women who have been recently diagnosed with and are having/have had surgery for breast cancer. Program volunteers may also work with the breast cancer survivor at other times as well. Women needing these services are matched with a trained volunteer who herself has had breast cancer in the past. The program has been aptly described by longtime volunteer and new program co-coordinator Pat Heiferling as "women who have been there helping women who are there now."

Pat co-coordinates the Denver Metro area program along with Joanne Hindle. To contact them or to receive more information on the Reach to Recovery program, please call 720-524-5474. You may leave a voicemail message. We are happy to receive either patient-initiated or provider-initiated referrals.
